I recently purchased a 320 gb 7200 rpm hard drive to instal in my macbook pro. I know it's a tricky physical replacement, but I know I am up for it. Here's what I need help with:
What is the best way for me to transfer my current hard drive contents onto the new drive, including OS and applications. i have a ton of plug ins, and REALLY want to avoid having to reinstall / authorize all of them. Do I need an external hard drive enclosure? Any transfer software needed?

Re: transferring to a new hard drive. help needed...
Sun, April 12, 2009 - 7:15 PMI just did this and had to re-install all my apps and plugins...d'oh! It was a bitch.
If I were to do it again, I would rather just get a firewire 800 (or 400) external hard drive, and tote it around with me. You can daisy-chain your audio interface with a firewire drive if you need to. -

Wed, June 24, 2009 - 5:08 AMI use "carbon copy cloner" to do this all the time.
Also - "SuperDuper" has a whole bunch of fans.
A clone would keep all the authorizations and activations current.
