Hey everyone!

My company, Keyfax NewMedia, has been put in charge of promoting and distributing the coolest thing since the lunar landing - the Tenori-on. With a cohesive and intuitive union of sound and light, the Tenori-on allows for a new method and experience in music and art. Check it out...

Yamaha and Keyfax NewMedia announce the US release of the Tenori-on at 2 launch events - April 16th at Southpaw in Brooklyn, NY and April 18th at 1015 Folsom in SanFrancisco - and they're both free! OMG, stop spamming this. It's really vague and that makes it entirely pointless.

spamming or not, i checked it out a tiny bit, here is a youtube video on it...

      www.youtube.com/watch

looks like a sampler with a shnazzy visual readout. looks like most of the work would be in figuring out what all the dots do...

interesting, i don't think i will be using it in the near future. the guy who designed this also designed NIntendo DS, you gotta give it to him for making some trippy products.

intention was not to spam but let you guys know that, hey, there's a free event where you can come see a cool new instrument and amazing artists. am i mistaken that people in a tribe that's dedicated to electronic music production would be into this?

      my bad

Sorry, I saw it 5 times and got cranky. Looked like a straight advert to me. Have fun at your parties.

Kinda have to agree with you on that one, sAro. I go to several musician forums and there it was.....at every fucking one of them. I would love to suggest how to avoid over saturation but I am not sure how.

ah si... i din't see this posting elsewhere, but i have to say that alia's last response on here kinda changed my mind a little on whether it is straight advertising or not... it may seem to be...

interesting none-the-less, but the come-on-down-and-win-a-tenori line smells of advertising

This and like items are totally appropriate as a listing.

Sure they are. I don't think that was my personal beef. Like you, I tend to veer toward the electronic musician forums and what kills me is going to the new topics and seeing the same posting across almost every one of them (usually a show or somebody who wants to turn people on to their latest offering, etc). There ought to be a way to check out the topics/postings/posters before going to the tribe. I have high speed internet and it STILL feels like a waste of my time to see the same post over 7 or 8 tribes (tribe's server can be a little slow too).

                    EXACTLY.

That's the biggest prob with Tribe imo. People posting BSPs and event listings as TOPICS. If folks would post them as listings (and Tribe could sure make this a little less like rocket science), readers could simply click on "topics" and filter out all listings at will. Ahhhh. Sweet relief.

I do know that if you post things as listings, noone will read them here at tribe.

Tribe.net members already have a pretty notoriously terrible reputation in terms
of not supporting local events (at least in the SF Bay Area and environs).

It is so damned difficult to get anyone to come to live events these days (unless
it's for mega successful or already well known artists) that I think it's okay
to post things as topics just to get it under people's noses.

that's just my take on it, but I , personally, didn't mind the Tenori posting by Alia.

It's more annoying that there seems to be so little traffic in most of the tribes I'm in right now
that I get excited to see several electronic music tribes listing new posts only to be bummed
that it's all advertisement for the same event (as this one was) with no new real content.

It's weird but when I first started coming to tribe there seemed to be a lot of enthusiasm
in posts and a lot of participation..............is it me or has it dropped off precipitously in the
                      past year or so?

i agree whole-heartedly rick. i got on tribe originally about 4 or 5 years ago and it was an awesome online community with so much energy and connectivity going on. Now most of the people i know who are still on tribe complain of how little is going on, it seems that drama is the order of the day.

what to do... maybe people are moving on to the newest and next online community, but i personally am not so into fishing for new places to go. luckily i still have some more local tribes that i can at least connect with my friends and eagerly await the next spark of interesting online conversation.

Timed: 65 seconds to open up the reply to post page on a t1 line...

I'm guessing the decline is due to the lag in actually completing searches and following commands. Also, a lot of people jumped shit when tribe began to really regulate on the inappropriate content side of things.

oh finally a question about the actual gear!

they will only be releasing 1000 in the united states at $1200 a pop.

they're not even for sale here yet, so I encourage everyone to come down, get their hands on one and check it out. It's a free event for a groundbreaking instrument. the downstairs at 1015 will be hooked up and wired to be a complete sensory experience. It's going to be a blast.

And about the whole listing thing... I just honestly wanted to have a conversation about it and see what you all had to say and what you thought. not about the fact that i posted as a topic (on no!).

I was at the Montréal launch last night. Here's my blog on it:

        sarodguitarist.livejournal.com/20...12/

An amazing device. I want one, but I have two other much more expensive items I need to get first (one custom.) Otherwise, the $1200 would be a no-brainer.

I can see doing a laptop-free live setup where I use just a Tenori-on, my various Kaoss pads, and my fretless guitar/guitar synth combo. The concept of improvisation is expanded quite a bit with this thing. Toshio Iwai is a genius.
