Using Logic's ES-1 in Cubase?

Is there any way to use the es-1 (or any of the other logic bundles synths) from within cubase?

I would like to avoid a rewire, and I would also like to avoid having to bounce down to an audio file and importing it into cubase.

I don't use Logic so I gotta wonder....I am guessing that Logic's synths are AU plugs, right? If Cubase supports AU plugs for its Mac version I would imagine so. Then again Steinberg developed VST so I can't help if they are really interested in supporting AU plugs. Hmmmm.....does FXexpansion have an AU to VST converter? Maybe that's a possibility. Still, I've never heard of anyone using Logic plugs in any app other than Logic itself. I am fascinated to find out.

How exactly does rewire work anyhow? Does it slave one DAW to a master daw, and use the asio out of the slaved daw as the input onto a chanel in the master? Must use up a ton of cpu i would guess.

Well I rewire Reason into Ableton Live all the time and it really isn't that terribly difficult to do (or even that CPU intensive). The question for you to figure out though in your case is whether or not Logic can be used as a Rewire slave. Some apps can be a slave only (like Reason), some apps can be a master only (like Pro Tools) and frankly I am not even sure about Logic. I hear that Logic is kind fo weird to work as a Rewire Master but is ok once you get the hang of how it is supposed to work.

    Hi mate,

This is a very important concern. Though I am a devoted Cubase user, I find the ES1 in logic to be incredible for basses. What I recommend is you sample the ES1 and load it into Kontakt or a similar program. If you're really adventurous, you can sample an unfiltered sound and do all the filters/envelopes in Kontakt so you can have more flexibility in Cubase. Otherwise, I've had no luck running them at the same time, they dont like to share audio drivers and Cubase on Mac is VST only while Logic is AU only. I dont even think the ES1 works with other AU programs like Ableton Live, pretty sure it's Logic only. So it goes.... KILLER synth tho, completely worth sampling even if you refuse to use Logic otherwise.

sampling bass is a great idea, and no, you can't use the logic plugins in cubase, at least as far as i know.

logic is a rewire client, and can be used as either master or slave, so this is a possibility...

you cannot use logic's instruments anywhere but logic.

That said, ES-1 is basically a simple 2 oscillator synth with an easy to use envelope and a good filter. There are plenty of good VST plug ins out there that do pretty much the same thing. Probably even free ones.

Yes, and a great way to find those free ones is to go to the Audio Plugin Junkies Annonymous tribe that I have here at
          tribe.net.

You can either start a thread to locate such a thing or go back through the amazing resources that are in the archives of all the postings.
We've located hundreds and hundreds of freeware VSTs and VSTis (and other platform plugz as well) on the web.

Go all the way back to the first few pages to find some really large lists of freeware plugin on the web.
