Re: budget set-up
Mon, September 15, 2008 - 6:17 PMwith a PC you can
make entire records with either
Fruity Loops, Producers Edition (about $150)
or Reason (not sure how much it costs)
Having a keyboard would help but I made my last two CDs on
FLStudio Producers Edition (formerly Fruity Loops) without a keyboard.
Reason is available on the Mac.........FL STudio is not, (but you can run Win XP on an new Intel Mac) -

Tue, September 16, 2008 - 8:49 AMalso cubase, which is a little more open than FL, if you ask me, and much more open than reason.
sound card is pretty important, and gives you the ability to record your mics and such a little better. get a keyboard if you are gonna use it, but it isn't completely necessary for some.

I tried out the demo and ended up getting it!!
I know there's a lot of DAW software out there, but this one is a step further.
It's actually based on a PC version of Mac's Garageband!! In fact, you can play their libraries and other sound libraries, do mash-ups or remixes. works with midi or plug-ins.
Excellent results from a regular sound card. Can you imagine a high end sound card?? Great Review too.
You will be suprised!

Tue, September 30, 2008 - 11:52 PMI think that you can find Live LE bundled with an M-Audio or Novation controller for around $100-150 - check novamusik.com - one of my favorites - they have lots of affordable bundles and a special selection of $99 and lower stuff.
reason is spendy - at least $400 for a retail version of 4. a full Live suite is about $500 but it's worth it if you decide to invest more in the future.
