Seeking Software Recommendation

Hey Folks,

(I haven't read the archives for this tribe, so I am trusting that this topic has not been covered already here)

I am seeking an audio-processing software recommendation.

Ten years ago, I bought Syntrillium's Cool Edit Pro 1.2. I've been using it ever since for audio processing, since it does most everything I want it to - multitrack mixing, hiss reduction, compression, effects adding, fade in and outs, etc. For various reasons, though, it's become clear that it's well past time for me to update to more modern software. Specifically, the ancient resampling (tempo change / key modulation) algorhythm on CEP is brutal.

So, I am looking for some modern software that does what CEP does for me, yet resamples cleanly. I'd also like something that gives key and bpm information for a given piece of music, maybe will auto-beat match two songs for me, and maybe allows for batch processing.

I will appreciate any input on this matter.

Happy New Year,

Adam

Ableton Live is the most reasonably priced tool that can do all this for you and more.

If you're on Mac, Logic is now a stellar deal since they marked down their prices in the new version very drastically.

    Good luck.

      Thank you Saro.

      I'm on a PC.

Man I would love a one-stop software tool, DJing and audio processing/production. Does Ableton let you do heavy-lifting production stuff like hiss reduction, adding reverb and chorus, long-silence-gap-deletion, dynamic range processing, re-EQ-ing? I always thought of it as more DJ software, but the website says that yeah it does production stuff too.

      Happy 2009 to all ...

        "I'm on a PC"

So, are you looking for Linux software?

        Anyway...... Check out fruity loops

        And Acid.... from Sony....

But you really didn't say too much of the style.

Are you gonna do just MIDI stuff?

are you gonna do just live recording?

Are you going to get a control surface?

        which interface are you getting?
some come with lite versions of software.

also, check out the tutorials and demos on youtube for any software you are thinking about...

The main question is usually "what is your budget?"

which will tell you a lot.

because maybe you wanna go with Digidesign stuff

        or Nuendo

Yes, Ableton takes VST plugins so you can add all the high-end tools you need.. software synths, effects, etc.

Live makes a lot of things really easy.

I went through demos of reason, fruity that I bought a long time ago, and so forth and settled on Live.

Drum racks, instrument racks, You can save an entire instrument with its entire device chain.

          Im in love with Live.

Fruity, I didnt like the mixer. I felt trapped.

I like the individual device chains of live.

          Reason.

Sort of the same issue I had with Fruity, just not enough flexibility.

Live pretty much allows for whatever you want to do.

The workflow of the live is the best Ive tried.
