I recently dumpster dived 3 different mics: 1) Vimi Sonic DSM-324; 2) Pro Audio SA-929; 3) AKG GN50.
They all work good, but not sure which ones i should use for vocal mics and which ones i should use for recording instruments and various sound samples. Also, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for mics that i could use for quality vocal recording that are somewhat cheap. Thanks.

Sat, October 24, 2009 - 8:55 PMShure makes pretty good affordable vocal mics... My best mic is my sennheiser... As for what you dumpster dived, I'm not finding their specs anywhere on the internet, so im not sure what is for what. If you find any specs on them you should link it so we can take a look. -

Tue, November 10, 2009 - 9:19 PMI love the ATM 4033.
No longer made, it has incredible detail and can frequently be found new or used for around $200.
It's just fantastic on everything.
We even used it with a Neuman KM84 to win the NAIRD (National Association of Independent Record Distributors)
"Instrumental Album of the Year" award for 1998 for Martin Simpson's 'Cool and Unusual' album.
Producer Daniel Thomas used that combination and got such a good sound that he was asked to write an article about the
sessions for Acoustic Guitar magazine.
Normally , he would use mics that cost 10 times as much money.
Buy one if you can find one.
