I saw a performer using an older AKAI MPC1000 to do a performance.
In it, he was manipulating the rhythmic rate with which each pad
retriggered the samples.
He used it beautifully by having sampled individual synth notes off of an analogue synthesizer
only using simple and idiosyncractic timbral variations , obviously using CC controllers, pitch
wheels and modulation.
All the retriggers were obviously set to musically appropriate rhythmic divisions
(8ths, 16ths, 32nds, et. al.) and the net effect was
both funky and also quirky and melodic.
I was entranced and wondered if anyone knows of software that will create the same effect?
I'd love to be able to manipulate samples thusly in live performance but don't really have the scheckles
to shell out for even a used one of these highly sought after Akai hip hop sample machines.
Any suggestions?

Re: Is there an Akai MPC 1000 or 2000 emulator available in software anywhere?
Tue, July 7, 2009 - 10:15 AMThe APC40 is only about $400. It was built with Ableton in mind.
