As I'm finishing up my projects I'm looking more and more into the marketing aspect and it occurs to me-the whole industry as a network is screwed-but I'm curious-obviously where we all buy also answer the question where we all should sell? Aside from Itunes-where do people here BUY music they enjoy?

Re: Producer/Artist Question: Where do you buy music?
Fri, February 29, 2008 - 2:59 PMInteresting-you can't up load your stuff to Beatport though, right?
I meant this more as: where do most people-creators, listeners, whatever else-get there music from when they buy-not just download... -

Re: Producer/Artist Question: Where do you buy music?
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 6:06 AMTo get your music on Beatport you need to be working with a label that has already established a relationship with Beatport...they will take on indie labels but from what I've read it is a process that isn't always open so you have to check their info pages frequently...
I think you're best bet is to look into digital downloads - the days of the CD are dwindling - and even when I do purchase CDs I usually do online directly from the artists or labels. Down with big record companies. Their music sucks anyway ; ) -

Re: Producer/Artist Question: Where do you buy music?
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 8:30 AMYeah-I'm mostly curious 'where' people congregate now to buy their music...obviously ITunes-but technically-no one congregates there. I'm looking for info on communities...

Re: Producer/Artist Question: Where do you buy music?
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 10:41 AMI've had good experiences at www.fuzz.com and www.projectopus.com. Both are free to sign up with and you can set your tracks for free or paid DL. ProjectOpus is a lot more thorough in ensuring that the work is your own and there is about a 24 hour wait period for the track to be available. Fuzz does not do this, but it is a larger community and has some big name artists on it like Bright Eyes and Rivers Cuomo (Weezer). Both are community based and act like an artist driven label (I think they both have plans to really make themselves a label, but not sure on that (read the agreement - you do maintain the rights to the work in both cases). There are many sites like this out there. I like to put my tracks up in as many places as possible. -

And use the "my beatport" function too... it really ends up helping the artists you like ;) -

Re: Producer/Artist Question: Where do you buy music?
Sun, March 23, 2008 - 1:57 AMif you're looking for a "Community" where you can buy music online, check out Soundclick...
www.soundclick.com
here's a link to my soundclick page as an example, although I'm giving my tracks out there for free, as opposed to the tracks I have for sale on Beatport.... I find that Soundclick does not get overwhelmed so I don't mind giving stuff out there for free as promos, or just for feedback.

Re: Producer/Artist Question: Where do you buy music?
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 10:19 PMLook, I'll just throw this out there. I really don't "buy" songs from the internet just for the purpose of a DJ set. If you are a dancefloor DJ I totally understand why you would want to. But really, the world is full of royalty free loops for free download and you can put together some really cool and original stuff together that way. I religeously go to www.acidplanet.com to download their free 8 packs and on the odd occasion will buy one of their loop libraries. From there I will chop up and treat to my own personal satisfaction and even add bass lines, drum beats and whatnot. Still, I understand the need to get the girlies out there body rockin' to something they already are familiar with so, more power to you. -

Re: Producer/Artist Question: Where do you buy music?
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 8:45 PMI kind of blazed past the original question and missed the point. If you have a CD with artwork together you may want to consider www.cdbaby.com. They will upload to I-tunes and post to retail outlets like amazon.com. It isn't free but it isn't unreasonable either....35 dollars plus 5 CDs are enough to get you started. -

Re: Producer/Artist Question: Where do you buy music?
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 10:47 AMI just had a good experience with www.tunecore.com .
they have a reasonable, recurring, flat fee to host your album and deliver it to online stores (many of them) and you get to keep *ALL* of the royalties from your music. Of course, you also retain the rights.
my album was on emusic within 3 weeks... then on itunes after about 2 months.
note that CD baby is kind of viewed by online stores (as industry insider friends have told me) as a trash pit where anyone can upload any crappy CD... so they don't prioritize adding them to their sites.
